Fallbarrow HallThe second annual UKAPA CME conference was held 7-9 July at Bowness-upon-Windermere on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the Lake District. Eleven physician assistants from all over Great Britain met for the opportunity to earn 6 hours of AAPA approved Category I CME credit as well as to socialize and share stories of working life in the NHS.

The conference was hosted at stately Fallbarrow Hall, whose beautiful surroundings and close proximity to several pubs and restaurants made it an ideal spot to relax after a day of high quality presentations from our own PA colleagues. Thanks to Kirsten Gipson, Neil Erickson, Helen Serbousek and especially Amber Reece for terrific presentations. Thanks also to Todd Guiton and Laura Folts for organizing this educational and enjoyable event.

The general membership meeting was held on Sunday morning. It started off with a presentation from Dr. Larry Wardle, founder of the MedicALS course (Acute Medical Emergencies: The Practical Approach).  Dr Wardle has a keen interest in the training of UK PA's and made this presentation to the group to find out if there might be an interest or need in the training of the PA in the UK for recognition of acute medical emergencies.

That presentation was followed by reports from the board of directors and committees on ongoing activities regarding the role development of the physician assistant within the United Kingdom. The meeting was such a success that members in attendance voted to hold the conference there again next year – with the goal to provide more CME to even more attendees.

The 3rd Annual UK Association of Physician Assistants Summer Conference will be held 4-6 July 2008 again at Bowness-upon-Windermere in the Lake District National Park of England.  If you are interested in giving a presentation and/or attending the conference, please contact the UKAPA at conference@ukapa.co.uk.

Respectfully submitted,

Lisa Nelson
