PA Registration

A Physician Assistant Managed Voluntary Register (PA MVR) has been established for Physician Assistants (PAs) in the UK. This register is a requirement prior to Statutory Regulation of the profession. The UK Association for Physician Assistants (UKAPA) is the professional body for PAs and is responsible for the PA MVR which is currently held at and administered by St George’s University of London.

We are strongly encouraging all PAs who have qualified from a recognised course or who are working in the UK and meet the application criteria to apply to join the register.

We would also strongly recommend the inclusion of registration on the MVR and UKAPA membership as a requirement of the person specification & job description for PA posts in your trust. This will help provide some element of public protection and safety as members must sign up to a Code of Conduct and a Scope of Practice and may be subject to Fitness to Practice Procedures should they arise. It also aids the profession in its application for statutory regulation and prescribing rights for PAs.
